Introducing The Crossing House Church
Hi! So this post is a little misleading. The Crossing house church is not new but has been around since about January of 2002. Like every gathering of God's people we have changed quite a bit since our first attempts to be an organic (naturally growing) part of God's Church. We started somewhat organized, then gave up on that! With all the changes there are some significant similarities to that first gathering. Here's what you'll find should you join us one day:
We are a family gathering. Rarely, if ever, have the adults outnumbered the kids. This little bit of nuance leads to some chaos, shorter studies and wonderful training for us all.
Our Bible studies are more conversation than sermon. We share the teaching responsibilities and teachers here are more like facilitators with the goal of getting everyone engaged, hearing biblical insights from both kids and adults alike.
Our meeting places move around. We often stay at one place for only 1 month at a time. We usually meet in homes but often in parks too.
We break bread together regularly. We almost always share a meal, breakfast or lunch. With a little email organizing, this usually goes smoothly.
We are small. We have had "large" gatherings at times, but usually consist of 3-4 families with between 15 and 30 attending. This is a natural number for the size and goals of our gathering.
We do not have a pastor. We share the role of leadership and spur one another on to love and good deeds.
Our goal is to be a community of believers in Jesus focused on building strong families and friendships.
We have found opportunities as a community to get involved in mission opportunities, more recently in Mexico and the Pala Indian Reservation.
We love the Church of Jesus in all its forms and don't pretend to be the end all or perfect example of what a gathering of believers should be.
